Darling David,
I felt a little lonely & so thought I would write you a line.
It would have been fun to have met your daughter to see her.
It puzzles me to know what is happening to this country what with the strikes & the [illegible] is dreadful. Since my accident I have been unable to go out quite so much. I get so dreadfully tired these days.
If only the weather would change I could go & sit in the Castle Gardens.
So how are you David is your back better.

* David Garnett (1892–1981) was an author and wrote eleven novels as well as his autobiography; he edited the letters of T.E. Lawrence and the novels of Thomas Love Peacock. He and Francis Birrell started a bookshop; he helped found the Nonesuch Press and the publishing firm of Rupert Hart-Davis.
