Aleister Crowley Diary Entry Monday, 10 March 1902
8.44 A.M. Himself [Sri Swami Syayam Prakashanand Maithila] was Yogi, "At beginning of journey you will find a Swami who will find a Yogi who will give you mantra &c" But "Your Guru is very far away" "will succeed after some trouble."
I promise to return and see him if possible.
Nautch.[1]
Ginde becomes Yogi.
Woke in night with vivid dream—made a mnemonic to avoid getting up—and now forgot.
1—Nautch is one of several styles of popular dance performed by girls known as Nautch girls.
The Maharaja (Sri Swami Swayan Prakashan Raithila) said that the expedition would succeed "after some trouble." The trouble turned up all right, I wish I could say as much for the success. In the evening I went to nautch, and am compelled to concur in the usual European opinion as to dullness and lack of music; but for all that there is a certain fascination. One feels that one could dream away many years listening to the cacophonous instruments and the tuneless voices of the dancers, and in watching the dull and decent movements of her shapeless and overclothed body and limbs.
