On the 31st Abdulla Khan came to us and said there was about ten pounds of sugar left. We had managed to eat ten pounds a day since leaving Skardu! This was a little too thick. We had up the three men who were in charge of the cooking department, and tried to frighten them; as it proved, in vain.
