Aleister Crowley Diary Entry

Saturday, 2 June 1906

Arrived Liverpool. Heard of Baby's [Lilith Crowley] death by letters from Mother and Uncle Tom. Why did nobody cable me? Arrived London, perfectly stunned.

A[1] appropriate in tone, though of course mechanical.[2] I solemnly reaffirmed the O[ath] of my O[bligation] to perform the O[peration] offering under these terrible circumstances, all that yet remains. Fortunately[3] I am quite unable to think of the thing in detail or as a reality.

1—This indicates the Invocation of Augoeides.

2—This paragraph marked "important" in MS.

3—[P.S.] December 31st. Not fortunately at all. One never gets able to do so. Stupour and pangs get to the limit and that limit is easy reached by very partial conception's of one's loss.
