About the Edward Kelly incarnation, it seems that I was Irish, not Welsh, though knavish enough to pass for a native of Llynfair—etc.—pwllgogoch. The family came to Wales in connection with some smuggling business; I don't know on which side my father was. The 'Sir' was a scholastic or clerical title. I have a deep affection for the name Abergavenny, as if I were at school or college there. I was extremely clever at mathematics.
