Aleister Crowley Diary Entry

Sunday, 1 August 1920

12.40 p.m. Opus[1] IV, 31-666-31 [Leah Hirsig] and Ethel [Ether]. Operation: the best (in its way) that I remember at any time. Perfectly strong and intense. The climax took me altogether away; I recall nothing of it. Alostrael [Leah Hirsig] had the same effect. Elixir: no special observation. Object: a new picture. Result: immediate; I got straight up and did a portrait of The Scarlet Woman in Her robe—oval. 'Tis the best thing I've ever done.
