Aleister Crowley Diary Entry Wednesday, 7 December 1921
Reading "Coningsby"—diffuse, prolix, artificial, didactic—interesting as a picture of those appalling times.
Somehow I got an "inspiration" about my plans. Suppose I went to Paris for Xmas while Leah [Leah Hirsig] worked England. Gen[era]l symbol. [I Ching Hexagram] 50. Ting—same as Eq[uino]x symbol. Must be done.
Painted hard all day.
11.11 P.M. Opus[1] VIII 93 [Leah Hirsig] p.v.n.[2] Op[eratio]n Very first-class indeed. El[ixir] Marvellous rich and strong. Obj[ect] Inspiration in practical matters.
Dreams: with Leah in a balcony—of a church I think. A plump blonde gay young woman with golden hair and pink cheeks came up nave [?]. She waved to Leah: I waved back. She cried "Mon cheri". Leah and I went down to meet her: she went off with Leah, whom she had come to see. Her name: OVASSIA. Though she had avoided me, she had loved me at first sight, and gave herself to me completely. It then transpired that she had been sent by F. Bennet [Frank Bennet] as a present to me. Later scenes were numerous and involved—race-courses, houses once vicarage of great abandoned churches, etc. I have forgotten this part. But I feel that OVASSIA is somehow a key.
