Aleister Crowley Diary Entry Saturday, 21 January 1922
Perquisition by the Police on the denunciation of Helen Fraux, a foul act of treachery very characteristic of this creature's imbecility. The sleuths made a minute search for "drugs" but were unable to find any, as I made a point of calling their attempts pertinaciously to the object for which they were looking.
P.M. All afternoon climbing on the Drei Schwestern with Alostrael [Leah Hirsig] and Ninette [Ninette Shumway]. We found some delightful though short pieces of rock work, and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
6 P.M. What line shall the Abbey take with regard to the malicious attack of Helen Fraux? [I Ching Hexagram] 2 Khwan. K[teis] of K[teis]. Do not seek to take the initiative; but act as circumstances require. Be cautious and "straight, square and great". Do not yield, but do not attack. Keep silence. Good fortune will come of this affair, but there may be a gorgeous scrap before it is over.
What attitude should Ninette adopt personally—especially with reference to her forthcoming interview with the authorities? (She makes the symbol) [I Ching Hexagram] K[teis] of Luna VII Sze. Resist firmly and cautiously any pressure, and look out for dirty tricks. If feeling insecure, insist on legal assistance.
