Note on primitive fear. The WALL is the sacred object. Hence debauch—to go out of doors—is identical in German. Ausschweiffung. Also, to come in is to be a burglar—Einbrecher. One must not cross (?) that wall! It is the fear of all activity that lies behind Philistinism. (Note also “runagate” (?))

     

? Is “sors”—luck—that which “comes out” in an augury also connected with this idea of danger, or at best chance, if one goes out of doors.
