Aleister Crowley Diary Entry Monday, 31 March 1941
[I Ching Hexagram] 29.
On wet nights one can always go and sleep under a tree.
Most of the day a truly abominable gale.
Did lots & lots of shopping.
Laid in hootch & similar necessities; also the luxury of half a pound of fudge!!
Chess v.[ersus] Mrs. Holloway 3-1. The lost game was over-confidence in a brilliancy ending—one precaution more & I was safe. Moral (as usual!): Look at the board now & then!
Drinks with Frank Clark at the Abbey.
“The Gordons” (?) blew up with a loud explosion of screams.
