Stolen packages arrived.
Had local Hamblin adjust frame: he could see no difference between the new lensglass and the ordinary. Wrote Traulan for explanation. Left speclets with Hamblin for new glasses—£3.0.6 (£8.17.0 if they seem inferior on trial).
Still most oppressively hot—river only solace.
Prepared evacuation very carefully—almost too carefully! Letter to Mrs. Sullivan typed & delivered to Smallman, Mrs. Diana Parker, & M’[aiden]head Advertiser.
