Aleister Crowley Diary Entry

Sunday, 4 January 1942

[I Ching hexagram] 2.

Woke 4 1/4 v.[ery] slight 241 [asthma symptoms].

Woke 8 oc (1, 2)[Heroin].

11 (41)M&A[tropine] expt [experiment].

12 3/4 deadly dull feeling: going out: prophylactic (3)[Heroin]. Not much use!

3 o’c (4)[Heroin] hoping to fill quota. N.[o] G.[ood],

5 1/4 (5)[Heroin] No courage to take 2.

Alice here all PM.

8 o’c Accident: lost tablets through needle coming off syringe. (6, 7)[Heroin].

Sheer determination to be fit in case F.H. [Frieda Harris] brings female friend. Just because the day’s hexagram was 2.

But I’ve been definitely asthmatic all day, though thank the Gods, no hint of even tendency to spasm.

8 1/4 Pen leaked too! suddenly and copiously.

9 1/2 No Frieda [Frieda Harris] and strange female—so my precautions were dangerous extravagance.

Made clinical notes, got worries, began to cough—and to vomit. Merde! This ‘doubtful date stuff’ must stop. I’ve messed up all my appointments—my whole programme—and took serious risks—for nothing at all.
