[I Ching hexagram] 40.

6 3/4 (1)[Heroin].

7 (2)[Heroin]. Slept yet again till 9!

9 3/4 (3)[Heroin].

11 (4)[Heroin].

Heavy snow—no central heating—I have slept actually for 19 hours with short intervals for eating!

I seem to have got some work done, for all that: In my sleep, I suppose!

3 1/2 Publicity work with JGB [James Gilbert Bayley] has tired me: repose and (5)[Heroin] woke up to work.

6 1/4 (6)[Heroin].

11.30 AM Bayley here to photograph me. [Photograph Version 1, Version 2]

A The North Sea Patete: Saw story (S[unday] Expr[ress]) of 2 Hun officers shot by soldier.

Telephoned Frieda [Frieda Harris]: Percy [Percy Harris] has Lumbago; she was in a tantrum, took it out of me as usual.

Saturnus [Karl Germer] cable: New Regulations exempt British born from usual visa procedure Write for details Amer Consul. Sent perique week ago.

This (6)[Heroin] was a mistake as on Jan 28 & 29.

Slept early. [photo of ac in overcoat, hat & cigar].

6.45 PM Repeated hint that the Turk Zanelli (cf Zanoni!) may be somebody.

Queer! OK I’ll ask the Yi. Message: [I Ching hexagram] 52 Kan—same as omen after [Lew] Jackson—see opposite . . . . —he was bombed 3 times!
