Air raid this AM heavy gunfire.
Alert 2 AM but I only half heard it. Slept again despite conscience’ call to note hour.
5 1/2 M.B. [Maisie Burger] [for dictation] continued letter to Saturnus [Karl Germer] sent NLT [night letter] infra.
4 Ham. [Gerald Hamilton] dropped in, pallid with funk of air raids! Sleepless!! About to flee!!! Complained that “it was raining too—and yet they came over!” Words fail.
