[I Ching hexagram] 8 [Hsiao Chu].

     

Left Paddington 11.55 AM Hellish crowd. Good porter got me corner [of a carriage]. Fool-swine opposite gave his seat to low cow with two loathsome brats. Hell!

     

Arr[ived] newport about 3 Taxi to T.[redegar] Park.

     

T.[redegar] [Evan Morgan] put me in the Oak Room—the best in the house. Before me slept here Jeffreys J (on the Western Circuit) the Marquess of Salisbury—my old patron—and Lord Allenby. . . .
