Louis [Louis Wilkinson] communicates somehow “Engagement cancelled” No signature. Can’t understand such brusque, rude message—after all the pains I’ve been at to fix him up here. Really annoyed: but suppose some curious chances.

    

Nat[iona]l City Bank of New York rang up that they have funds for me.

    

Louis’ defection depressed me a whole lot:

    

Work on XXXII [letter for what later became Magick Without Tears] flagged.
