[I Ching hexagram] 35.

     

[Air Raid] Alert 2.12.3. Many planes over. Many lights—searchlight flashes quite new to me—very funk-making.

     

Went down 7 explored man with torch prowling round house.

     

R.[aiders] P.[assed]? but 3.30. All v[ery] bewildering & alarming.

     

PS Others felt the same; but it was our extra big sortie. Stars & flashes etc from a big ‘drome to NW. Still, it was an Alert.

     

Began [letter for] F.[iat] Y.[od] [Anne Macky] XXXV [for what eventually became Magick Without Tears] “Moralings on Meanness” about 3 pp:

     

Tired as hell. All week not too full of beans.

     

Louis [Louis Wilkinson] coming Sunday or Monday should restore me.
