Leah Hirsig Diary Entry

Tuesday, 1 April 1924

Lunch and drive with Aimée [Aimée Gouraud]. I did my best, we shall see.*

Dr. Jarvis [Dr. Charles Jarvis] has taken the path of all ambitious physicians! He'll get a write-up with the rest of them some day.

H.[ope] Johnson has said goodbye. He's a nice boy. May my great-motherly counsel help him thro' his silly affair!

Took Beast out to dinner. Hurrah! But he was a very tired boy. We saw Mary [Mary Butts] and Maitland [Cecil Maitland]. O Yere Gott!

* Took 22 L. [Cocaine] before going to lunch to concentrate my thoughts. Result—they all fled leaving me with what became my opening speech later: "My whole being cries out to you to see us thro' this crises!"

Then I put my plea simply and truthfully.
