Paris Nights in the Day Time
Apr. 17/24
I've been bitten by a dog—I know I have. A sausage and choucroute will cure me. I write while they are en route.
I went to the Pl. Vendôme in a taxi and came home on all fours. How? don't ask me! Anyway, it started by my getting on a bus whose guard assured me that he passed Blvds. R. & M.—I confess to having got on without a ticket of admission but that was his fault, not mine.
All went well tho' I didn't seem to recog[nize] the places we passed except [illegible] and the Eiffel Tower until I was gently warned by the paid guard that I had passed my destination. I hadn't seen it! I descended. Of course I had become anxious when I began to see "Pasteur" written on everything. And of course I hadn't seen the dog but I must have been bitten. After a while I reached the Blvd. Maine which is my excitement I read as Mange. Then I was certain. After 3 more turns each one of which was to being me home in 10 minutes I found myself back at the Gare M. which he had passed on some side not familiar to me. Then I scooted down Blvd. M. and landed (on all fours) on the pavement. My ankle as well as my reason had given way.
I like Paris and this is my 5th visit. But—I do wish someone would pay my taxi fares home! And here comes the garni!
