Leah Hirsig Diary Entry Tuesday, 29 April 1924
All in—so is 666.
We didn't get in till 1.30 A.M. and I couldn't stand the Ether.
Talk w.[ith] Maitland [Cecil Maitland] last night in S.E. He agreed (that when the time came) he would sign a sworn statement that the interview given by him to S.E. reporter was badly garbled etc.—Nothing very definite and I don't trust him for a moment as soon as Mary [Mary Butts] is on the job. He has a decent streak in him but she manages to deaden it with her suave ways. I shouldn't be a bit surprised to hear of some trick with regard to the photographs—something like a telegram to Cefalù—But really, I exceed myself and other amateur criminals!
Maitland— Message to Mary.
