Meredith Starr Diary Entry

Wrote this as soon as I woke up:

Invocation.

All is prepared; the incense steams;

The people worship at the shrine;

And through the gloom unearthly gleams

Flash from the crystal's ruby wine;

And where the carven image stands

A halo glimmers, and its light

Illumes the supplicating hands,

And rays the sable dusk with white.

Vast silence fills the perfumed air,

Dark shadows cluster on the floor,—

With hands bent low in wordless prayer

Behold! we worship and adore:

O Goddess of the Golden Belt!

Chaste Goddess of the amber eyes!

We pray thee make thy presence felt,

Initiate thy mysteries!

Slept 8 hrs. 12 — 8.
