Meredith Starr Diary Entry

Monday, 1 August 1910

11 —12 p.m. Invoked Apollo by various means, and with some success. . . . The aura of the room became extremely powerful.

Wrote the following at 12.30.

Invoking Apollo.

(obtained while invoking him Monday Aug 1/10.)

O sweet, sweet singer

Of grave and gay,

Thy light shall linger

To point the way

To the priceless pearls

That glow and gleam

Where the salt sea curls

Round rocks that dream

In caves of amber

And pools of gold,

Where mermaids chamber,

And love is bold.

For time is the song

That lights the day;

We have heard it long,

Throbbing away

By sea and river,

By hill and dale,

In reeds that shiver,

And winds that wail,

In storms that bluster,

In breeze that sighs

Where vine-leaves cluster

Neath Southern skies.

O come in thy glory,

Great God of the lyre!

Thou fabled in story!

Thou fountain of fire!

O come in thy splendour

Of magical might!

Thy singing shall render

The universe bright!

The stars on thy forehead

Shall flash in our night,

And quicken the torrid,

Pale land of delight

With flashes of fire,

And arrows of flame

For those that desire

The name of thy name!

Apollo, Apollo,

Great God of the lyre!

For ever we follow

Thy measures of fire!

For ever and ever

Thy music shall be

The magical measure

Our spirits to free!

For ever we dance to

The sound of thy lyre,

As sea-horses prance to

The sea's great desire!

For ever and ever

Thy song shall ascend,

A rapturous measure,

Of joy without end!
