Crowley's diary entry of 31 December 1945 indicates that Leonora Bennet (Lady Tankerville) was a IVº initiate in the O.T.O.
Leonora, daughter of James Gilbert van Marter of New York, was the wife of George Montagu Bennet, 7th Earl of Tankerville who was a British peer, cowpuncher, circus clown, and revival meeting singer.
She met her husband when he turned a somersault over a sofa in a New York drawing-room, nearly falling into her lap. They were married at Tacoma, Washington, on 23 October 1895. Prior to their marriage she had been a music teacher. They had four children:
