Louis Turley Culling
Born: 1894 in St. Louis, Missouri. Died: 1973
Louis T. Culling was born in St. Louis to a prosperous family and educated at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. He became a Probationer in the A∴A∴ under Max Schneider on 12 September 1937. He was known as Frater Aequila or 153 and was a member of Agape Lodge. He and was an author, organist and jack-of-all-trades.
Culling was a veteran of World War I who had survived the conflict with serious injuries. On his return to civilian life he worked as a theater organist until the arrival of the talkies. For lack of anything better to do, he became a homesteader in Rainbow Valley near Fallbrook, California, in the foothills of the Palomar Mountains.
He was a Regular Freemason with a longtime interest in astrology and the occult. He joined C. F. Russell's Choronzon Club and rose to the rank of "Neighborhood Primate" for the San Diego Lodge. He eventually broke with Russell over his attempt to "abrogate" the Book of the Law.
See Rainbow Valley for information about his homestead. |
