Mary Waska was a Parisian model. She was introduced to Crowley on the first day of his Greater Magical Retirement on 1 October 1908 by Nina Olivier. Crowley described Mary as a redheaded bundle of mischief. On 1 October he bought her dinner, then brought her to his room to make love. She inspired him to write "The Two Secrets" which later appeared in The Winged Beetle.
