The Virgin

Grady McMurtry

July-August 1961

The silent god Harpocrates

Has spoken on the Deep

The Sphinx screams in his agonies

Locked in the donjon-keep

The Angel’s wing has stirred the breeze

The space-warped cruisers leap

O Pharos Flame that spans the Dark

Your razor’s edge in Zion

Has sped The Arrow to Its mark:

The Eagle and the Lion!
