Ah what if I hear

The wood-birds rejoice?

That bird is most clear

Who sings in thy voice.

What if the stars shine,

Or they hide from the skies?

The brightest is thine,

In the light of thine eyes.

Doth April renew

With blossoms the earth?

What sweeter e'er grew

Than in thy heart hath birth?

The singer of lire—

This day-star aflame—

This flower of desire—

Oh! love is its name.
