ACCIDENT TO ONE OF THE PARTY.

DARJEELING, 9TH SEPTEMBER.

News has reached this station of a sad accident to a member of the Kinchinjunga expedition, Monsieur Pache [Alexis Pache], who with three natives has been killed in an avalanche. Doctor Guillarmond [Jules Jacot Guillarmod] and Signor the Righi [Alcesti de Righi] are slightly injured. Mr. Crowley is safe. The catastrophe has determined the party to return. No further particulars are to hand, but Mr. Crowley states that the fatal accident occurred through wanton disregard of his instructions and elementary precautions in mountain craft.

Later.

Monsieur Raymond [Charles-Adolphe Reymond] is also safe. The party, it appears, were on Yalung glacier, 22,000 feet, and were preparing to move on to the next camp preparatory to ascending the highest peak of Kinchinjunga.
