THE KINCHINJUNGA EXPEDITION.

FATAL ACCIDENT.

DARJEELING, September 9.

A fatal accident has occurred to the Kangchinjunga expedition, a roped party of six, Messrs. Guillarmond [Jules Jacot Guillarmod], Righi [Alcesti de Righi], Pachi [Alexis Pache] and three natives, having fallen 250 feet with an Avalanche.

Messrs Guillarmond and Righi were saved by a miracle but Pachi and three natives were buried under the snow.

The two survivors and Mr. Peymond, [Charles-Adolphe Reymond] who pluckily came to the rescue, worked an hour trying to discover the others, but they were buried too deep in the snow and the searchers had to leave as darkness came on and they were two hours from camp.

The accident happened at 5-30 in the afternoon of first September. The two survivors are slightly bruised. The expedition is returning to Darjeeling shortly.
