My dear Fanny,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

I am sending you a copy of a letter sent to Alma [Alma Hirsig]. Lea [Leah Hirsig] does not know what I am writing but she said she expects Alma to be so mentally upset that anything I wrote to her would be no good. I thought therefore I would put you directly in touch with the situation. I know you helped Lea at the time of the expulsion [from Italy]. Indeed but for you I don't know what would have happened. But I hope this is the last kick of bad luck. The tide seems to have turned definitely and if we can once get Lea back to perfect health all should go well. I feel sure you will do everything in your power.

Love is the law, love under will.
