Dear Jane,
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
I answer yours of Jan. (NOT June!) 19 at once.—You did not enclose Cameron's [Marjorie Cameron] letter which I will return when it comes.
Your questions: I'm afraid I cannot be of much help. However, here goes for what it is worth.
Abiegnus is, I believe to remember, the Latin for Pine trees, the Mountain of Pines. But not positive, and all my reference books being packed, ask Wilfred [Wilfred Talbot Smith] who must have some, to check. It is the old Rosicrucian term. Its meaning? Refer to Mount Olympus, the seat of the Greek Gods; Meru, that of the Indians, and others. Briefly the place where high Inspiration comes from.
The fact that you are so preoccupied with these terms may mean that you should look for the ONE who inspires you with these thoughts, and why? It is surely 65 or your HGA [Holy Guardian Angel] who has long followed your path, sees your worry and anxiety, wants to talk to you but this is only possible in symbolic language. Possibly He knows that you are mature on some high plane and that you ought to become aware of what has taken place, there in your conscious, rational mind.
People with constitutions like A.C., Jack Parsons, and possibly, Cameron (also e.g. Sascha [Sascha Germer]) can get direct messages, can actually talk with higher entities, either on the astral or higher planes. I, for one, am totally blind and deaf. In such cases there are other ways. What you have to learn is (1) the assurance that it comes from your HGA; and not is just an idea that pops up accidentally in your mind; (2) that He wants you to walk up through the symbol, word, or idea, to what it stands for on those higher planes where images no longer exist ("Be not content with the image; I, who am the image of an image, say this", etc. LXV, I.)
(In 1927 I passed through what I call my Boston experience. I was being pushed through severe tests; the culmination came in June. I had just lost my well-Heeled job; had been sending $100 every fortnight on the dot to Paris; I got my last check, had not even the money to pay my ticket to New York; I sent the check all the same. There was a female in the ordeal. I was pushed to read up on the Parsifal legend; was walking in a park in Boston when a white dove suddenly sat down on my shoulder; I went home and got the Trance of the Universal Joke; coming home to the female involved hid in a closet, pointing to Kundry hidden in the bushes, then coming out and washing the feet of Parsifal (as in other legends). The candidate must learn to interpret such hints and urges so as to become firm and unshakable in the realization that, as human, earthly beings, we are but marionettes on the wire of higher forces; and learn to do THEIR WILL. This has to become so automatic that one does not even is conscious of it any more, or has to make an effort.
Yes: Montsalvat is another of those Mountains mentioned above. Your error is that you want to pedantically analyse the origin of any particular thing; it is always the same, just another name in the Hindu, Christian, Chinese, Bolshevik, or any other language. Do you think the Russian candidates are despised by God because they are living under another system? The American smear-slogan of Atheism, is just another competitor's envy and jealousy. The Thelemite makes no difference between any one thing and any other thing.
So, forget about tracing origin and meaning; try to see with your spiritual eye what it stands for.
I sometimes really think I understand what A.C. frequently said about me, that I'm "spiritually ahead of him;" that I am the bloke who could never travel on the astral plane, because my mind instantly passed through all these lower planes and dwelt where images no longer exist.
I don't know if all this is being helpful to you. I'm afraid that it is hardly suitable for discussion with Wilfred.
No change in the position here; still waiting for report from Germany, where they are working on search and investigation. I must be patient, But I can see clearly enough that the delay is for a magical purpose, and will cease the moment the purpose of the delay is solved. Be sure that I shall notify everybody at once. Incidentally, the longer the days get, the more we'd like driving.
