Correspondence from Philip Kaplan to Edward Noel Fitzgerald
April 9th 1956.
Dear Mr. Fitzgerald:
Very happy to hear from you and many thanks for letting me see the photos of A.C. drawings.
The nose drawing and the little water color of the crosseyed girl were offered to me several years ago from London. I turned them down at that time because of their ugliness and that goes for the other two. I know that A.C. has done some rather nice things in his own inimitable style which appeal to me much more than the photos you sent.
I wish I could help you out with the titles you are seeking but I am sorry I can not. I have the copy of Alice [Alice: an Adultery] but do not have the other titles. I have a pretty good collection myself but nothing in comparison with yours or Yorke [Gerald Yorke]. At the moment I have first choice in a lot of A.C. books that belonged to Monty Evans [Montgomery Evans]. My bookdealer thinks they are extremely valuable, he shows them to me a few at a time. I did see a copy of "Chicago May" but not the other titles you are looking for.
As a friend of A.C. you must have enjoyed the many meetings mentioned in Cammell's [Charles Cammell] book. I never knew him nor am I a disciple of his, I am just a curious collector.
Your Biblio is quite good but I wish someone would do one with facsimile pages, at least title pages. His typography and magical illustrations are quite handsome at times.
Thanks again for your interest and I shall keep you posted on any items that may interest you.
Yours sincerely,
Philip Kaplan
