Aleister Crowley Diary Entry

[See Preparation for the Operation of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin the Mage for background information.]

Either Thursday or Friday night I dreamt of beginning the Operation, and of some obstacle on the second day.

Heard this evening from Deo Date.[1] S.[econd] O.[rder] apparently mad. Resolved to write to D.D.C.F. [Macgregor Mathers] offering myself. I invoke [Shu] to give an answer in my dreams. Got him very visibly.

[On the reverse page Crowley performed a Tarot divination: "Shall I go to London re[garding] S. O.? Fortune and Hope to the Universe. The Imperator? The fortune of the Imperator will change. Hope that reconcilement will avert destruction by fire. The U[niverse] shall be led by the Initiatrix to the Sun."]

[Another divination on the reverse side of the next page: "Good fortune and unexpected help in the matter. The strife inspires a change. An involuntary change finally decides for glory, gain, etc."]

1—Deo Date (Harrietta Dorothea Hunter, the Cancellarius of the Golden Dawn) wrote Crowley stating the Second Order in London did not recognise his 5º=6o initiation that was performed by S. L. Macgregor Mathers..

In the afternoon I tried to go to the twll-du [Welsh slang for 'black hole', or anus] for O.E. [Oscar Eckenstein] with poor success. I then began to fix things up for a final. The wand wanted straightening.
