Aleister Crowley Diary Entry

Thursday, 31 January 1946

[I Ching Hexagram] 2.

Chit from Edwin Jones.

Another great Gale.

Young Piper reported that his car was warmer than the Chess Club

Chess v.[ersus] Watson[1] (Q) 1-0. Another A1 game, nearly all pawns gone; I gave up a R.[ook] for 3 minor pieces & a further attack; finally won his Q.[ueen] & broke his heart.

Matthews thinks the long strain of root-extraction accounts for my chronic depression.

1—[Refers either to William G. Watson, a member of the Hastings Chess Club, or Herbert Watson.]
