Dr. Jules Jacot-Guillarmod Diary Entry

We take the Darjeelin Himalayary, a small Lilliputian railway. Very steep slopes. At the top of the line, in Ghum, we join Crowley with Salahana.

Arrival in Darjeeling at 1h 1/2.

At the station is Mr. Righi [Alcesti de Righi], the manager of the Woodland Hotel: he must come with us to Kanchenjunga and was very useful in the preparation of the expedition. He has the luggage taken and taken to the hotel or Cr took 2 rooms to stockpile the provisions and Kashmir Kiltas brought by Salanah and the indigenous baskets he had reinforced.

After dinner we start the chapter of business and accounts and I definitely start to believe that Crowley did things too luxuriously. In any case, the dance of the rupees is going very well and it was about time I arrived to moderate it a little. But the bulk of the damage is done and I'm afraid my entire letter of credit will be lost.

In addition I find that AE. (Crowley) juggling a little too easily with other people's money and Righi seems to be using our expedition as a preparation for futures and also does not fear to make the handle of the basket dance.

I review the coolies that come spontaneously to offer themselves. I'm looking at 60 of them.
