Helen Ruth Hollis

Born: 10 August 1899 in Centreville, Maryland.

Died: 28 July 1989 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Born to James Hollis, teamster and ice-plant worker, and wife, Adeline (née Taylor) Hollis. One of ten children, Helen left school after seventh grade and by 1920 was a boarding domestic "working out" in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

It's highly likely that she and Crowley met during his first visit to Atlantic City in November 1918. She undoubtedly took Crowley's fancy and she would weave in and out of his Greenwich Village apartment and his love-life in 1919. After Crowley met Leah Hirsig, Helen played the role of taking charge of Crowley's studio and Leah's child Hansi.
