- Crowley, with the help of Elaine Simpson, successfully captures the Second Order Vault and expels Maud Cracknell whom they find inside. She immediately sends a telegram to E. A. Hunter to "Come at once to Blythe Road, something awful has happened".  When E. A. Hunter arrives he finds Crowley in possession of the room having apparently changed all the locks. At that point Crowley declares "We have taken possession of headquarters by the authority of MacGregor Mathers. Wilkinson, the landlord for the room used for the Second Order Vault and show him a letter from Florence Farr authorizing them to change the locks on the room. At 11:30 a.m. Crowley appears in full Highland dress with plaid over his head and shoulders, a huge gold cross around his neck, and a dagger at his waist. According to plan, he wears a black mask over his face to conceal his identity. The landlord stops Crowley and forbids him from entering the premises. A constable is called but can do nothing for Crowley except advise that he get a lawyer”. [56]
